Paraguay: Authorities restore power in most affected areas after electricity disruptions impact locations across country March 11

Authorities restore electricity in most areas after power outages impact locations across Paraguay March 11; lingering disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Authorities are working to restore power in areas across Paraguay that have experienced electricity disruptions after the Ayolas-Villa Hayes Transmission Line went out of service March 11. The country's National Electricity Administration (Administracion Nacional de Electricidad, ANDE) had confirmed that the provision of electricity had returned to normal in some 90 percent of areas impacted by the outages as of around 16:14; power restoration was still pending in areas serviced by the Villa Hayes, Puerto Botanico, Mburukuya, Villa Aurelia, Parque Caballero, and Mariano Roque Alonso substations. Authorities did not immediately confirm what caused the Ayolas-Villa Hayes Transmission Line to go out of service.

Disruptions to transport, business, and telecommunications are likely over the coming hours in areas subject to power outages and other fluctuations in electricity service.

Advice

Charge and conserve the power of mobile and other electrical devices when possible and ensure backup batteries are available where needed. Plan for road travel delays due to malfunctioning or nonfunctional traffic lights in affected areas; exercise caution when driving in the impacted areas. Verify that security systems are working during the power outages. Check that generators are functional and refuel equipment where necessary to ensure that business-critical functions remain in service.
