Event

The Yewwi Askan Wi (Free the People) coalition has postponed its nationwide demonstration originally slated to take place on April 3 until further notice. The decision follows consultations with senior officers of the Senegalese defense and security forces. The purpose of the action was to denounce the incarceration of alleged political prisoners, as well as the prosecution African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics, and Fraternity (PASTEF) party leader Ousmane Sonko on charges of libel, among other issues. Nevertheless, activists could organize new protest campaigns with little-to-no notice.
