Crews are working to contain a wildfire in North Gyeongsang Province as of late March 16. The fire broke out in the Heunpyeong area of Oenam township near Sangju City on the afternoon of March 16. Authorities estimate the fire has burned 78 hectares (193 acres) and is around 23 percent contained. More than 1,100 personnel are on-site battling the blaze. The fire is being fanned by strong winds in the region; wildfire spread is likely. As of late March 16, authorities have evacuated nearly 200 people from nearby villages, and one person has been treated for smoke inhalation.
