Authorities are conducting a security operation in response to a shooting incident in the Krung Phet Villa Village area of Mueang Phetchaburi, Phetchaburi Province, as of late March 22. An armed assailant opened fire the afternoon of March 22, leaving at least two people dead and 3 others wounded; reports indicate the mayor of Ton Mamuang was injured. The incident has resulted in a stand-off between the assailant and police at a nearby residence. Over 100 security personnel are maintaining a heightened security presence and have evacuated people from the affected area.

Officials are likely to heighten security measures over the coming hours. Associated localized transport disruptions are possible.

Mueang Phetchaburi is located approximately 58 km (36 miles) north of Hua Hin.
