Venezuela: Additional labor-related demonstrations planned nationwide through at least mid-March
Unionized workers to continue protesting in Caracas, Venezuela, through at least mid-March to demand higher salaries.
Event
Unionized workers, primarily employed in the education sector, plan to continue holding protests in Caracas through at least mid-March. Participating workers demand higher salaries, among other concessions; retirees have also joined the ongoing action.
Activists have confirmed at least two upcoming demonstrations: they intend to gather in Plaza Venezuela at 09:00 on March 8 to march to Plaza Morelos to commemorate International Women's Day. Additionally, on March 13, they intend to gather outside the Ministry of Education in downtown Caracas, although additional details have not been confirmed.
Additional rallies are likely over the coming days in Caracas, as well as in other major cities in Venezuela. Hundreds of people will likely participate in any demonstrations that materialize. Likely gathering locations include outside government buildings, along major roads, or at prominent public squares. Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor all such events. Confrontations between protesters and the police may occur, especially near government buildings. Ground travel delays are likely near all gathering sites.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Plan accordingly for localized ground delays. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
