Emergency response ongoing to contain wildfire at Inwangsan mountain, Seoul, South Korea, as of the afternoon of April 2.

Warning

Event

Emergency crews continue to respond to a wildfire at Inwangsan mountain in central Seoul as of the afternoon of April 2. The fire initially began near Inwangsan Train Rock in Buam-dong and is currently spreading toward the north due to winds. Officials have deployed around 580 firefighters and nine helicopters to help extinguish the fire. Authorities are evacuating around 120 residents of Gaemi Village and nearby areas.

Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely in the affected area over the coming hours. Authorities may restrict access to nearby roads to facilitate the movement of emergency vehicles. Officials may also mandate building evacuations and business closures in the vicinity as a precaution until the fire is extinguished and investigations end. Low visibility from smoke and possible ashfall could contribute to traffic delays and congestion in the vicinity.

Advice

Avoid the area until authorities give the all-clear. Seek alternative routes and allow additional travel time to nearby destinations. Consider remaining indoors if smoke is heavy, especially if you suffer from a respiratory illness such as asthma or conditions that lead to increased risk from smoke exposure. Eye irritation is possible; flush irritated eyes with copious amounts of clean water. Heed all official instructions, including any evacuation orders.
