As of May 25, public health personnel in Yaounde are striking indefinitely from 07:30-12:30 daily to demand improved working conditions and salaries, among other demands. Since the work stoppage began on May 22, participants have gathered in several areas of the capital, including in front of the emergency center of Yaounde (Centre des Urgences Yaounde, CURY), the Regional Delegation of the Ministry of Public Health, and the Health Ministry. Gatherings passed off peacefully. It is unclear whether the action has impacted medical services.
Related gatherings may persist near CURY and other health-related facilities, as well as near the Health Ministry and other government buildings in the coming days. Localized road travel delays are possible near protest areas.
