Israel, PT: Increased security, retaliatory strikes likely in Israel after Israeli strikes on Gaza Strip May 10 /update 1

Increased security, retaliatory strikes likely in Israel after Israeli strikes on Gaza Strip, PT, early May 10.

Warning

Event

Gaza-based militants launched several rockets toward communities in Israel's Southern and Central districts on May 10 after Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out airstrikes throughout the Gaza Strip May 9-10. The IDF reported that the airstrikes targeted members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) movement. Rocket sirens sounded in several areas, including Ashkelon, Sderot, and Tel Aviv. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) intercepted most of the projectiles. One rocket reportedly landed near a residential area in Sderot, though no casualties have been reported. Operations at Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) have been disrupted as rockets targeted southern Tel Aviv suburbs.

Israeli forces will almost continue to launch strikes on suspected militant targets in the Gaza Strip. Heightened security measures are likely in southern and central Israel over the coming hours. Gaza-based militants may fire additional rockets at communities in southern Israel over the coming days; precautionary measures, such as evacuations, are possible in affected areas.

Advice

Monitor local media and abide by security forces' directives. If incoming mortar rounds or rockets are reported, or warning sirens sound in the general vicinity, report to the nearest bomb shelter and await further instructions from authorities. If there is no shelter nearby, stay indoors, away from windows and exterior walls. If possible, move to a ground floor or basement.
