Mexico: Activists march in downtown Mexico City May 26
Activists march in central Mexico City, Mexico, May 26. Heightened security, and transport disruptions are likely.
Event
Activists have launched a march in downtown Mexico City on May 26. The purpose of the action is to demand justice for the 2014 mass kidnapping of 43 students in Ayotzinapa, Guerrero State. Participants initially gathered at the Angel de la Independencia before marching towards the Hemiciclo a Benito Juarez.
Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased police presence near gatherings as a precaution. Localized transport and business disruptions are likely. Clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be ruled out, especially if authorities attempt to disperse crowds forcibly.
Advice
Avoid the march as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near the impacted area. Seek alternate routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
