Nigeria: Doctors to strike nationwide May 17-22

Doctors in Nigeria to hold nationwide strike May 17-22. Related protests possible.

Informational

Event

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has called for a nationwide strike from May 17-22. The action is to address several grievances, including salaries and lack of personnel. It is unclear how many employees may adhere to the work stoppage; the NARD represents about 40 percent of Nigerian doctors.

Unless averted, the action will cause disruptions to medical services. Related protests remain possible near hospitals, medical facilities, and government buildings, including in Abuja and Lagos.

Advice

Confirm all medical appointments through May 22 as a precaution. Avoid all protests.
