Activists affiliated with the New School for Democracy (NSD) and other civil society groups plan to hold a vigil at Taipei's Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall June 4. The event is to commemorate the anniversary of the 1989 crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in and around Beijing's Tiananmen Square. Similar previous events have drawn hundreds of participants.

Authorities will likely deploy security personnel in and around Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. While the event will likely pass off peacefully, minor skirmishes between police and event participants cannot be ruled out. Associated transport disruptions are possible.
