Unionized workers affiliated with the Intersyndical Plenary of Workers – National Convention of Workers (Plenario Intersindical de Trabajadores – Convencion Nacional de Trabajadores, PIT-CNT) are planning to stage a protest march in central Montevideo May 31. The purpose of the action is to demand that the government provide solutions to the current drought-driven water crisis in the country, including via the creation of a crisis committee. Participants are planning to gather at the intersection of Avenida 18 de Julio and Ejido starting at 17:30 and march to the Torre Ejecutiva, where the presidential offices are located. A rally will likely take place at nearby Plaza Independencia after the march. The protest was originally scheduled for May 24 but was postponed due to severe weather conditions.
