Argentina: Disruptions likely in Jujuy Province until at least late June after protesters clash with police June 17
Disruptions likely in Jujuy Province, Argentina, until at least late June after protesters clash with police June 17.
Event
Increased security and transport disruptions are likely in Jujuy Province through at least late June after protesters clash with police on June 17, denouncing a constitutional reform and demanding the release of political activists, among other things. Demonstrators gathered in several cities, including Perico, San Salvador de Jujuy, and San Pedro de Jujuy. Protesters have reportedly blocked National Routes 9 and 52 in Purmamarca, Route 9 in La Quica, Av. Savio in San Salvador de Jujuy, Route 66 in Palpala and Route 34 in San Pedro de Jujuy. Police have deployed to the area and have used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse protesters.
Continued unrest will prompt authorities to deploy additional security forces. Clashes between demonstrators and police are likely, especially if protesters continue to block roads and ignore police orders to disperse.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a standard precaution. Plan accordingly for transport disruptions if shipping through Jujuy province.
