Cambodia increasing border security in Kratie, Mondulkiri, and Ratanakiri provinces as of June 17. Increased processing times possible.

Informational

Event

Authorities in Cambodia have increased border security measures in Mondulkiri, Ratanakiri, and Kratie provinces bordering Vietnam as of June 17. Officials are imposing the measures to prevent assailants responsible for the June 11 armed attacks against two police stations in Cu Kuin District, Dak Lak Province, Vietnam from escaping to Cambodia. Reports suggest that the incident was carried out by ethnic minorities from the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The attack killed at least two local officials and three civilians. Vietnamese authorities have arrested 46 people and are searching for more suspects.

Heightened security measures, including checkpoints, additional patrols, and random vehicle searches are likely over the coming weeks in the affected areas. Police could perform strict identity checks and search all vehicles crossing Cambodia's border with Vietnam. Enhanced checks at land border crossings could increase passenger processing times.

Advice

Reconfirm the status of border crossings and road routes near the shared border before departure. Heed the instructions of local officials.
