Utility provider Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) has announced ongoing power disruptions will continue in parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through Aug. 18 due to maintenance work. Power outages and delays in supply normalization are probable, though significant disruptions are unlikely. Affected areas are as follows:

Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Malfunctioning traffic signals may prompt limited transport disruptions. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
