Cambodia: Planned power outages to affect parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through Nov. 24

Power outages to occur in parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province, Cambodia, through Nov. 24. Related disruptions possible.

Due to maintenance work, planned power outages will occur in parts of Phnom Penh and Kandal Province through Nov. 24. Utility provider Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) has announced the following details:

  • Nov. 22: Planned outages will occur in parts of Pou Senchey District in Phnom Penh and Ta Khmau District in Kandal Province 08:00-13:00, as well as Chroy Changvar, Sen Sok, Pou Senchey, and Prek Pnov districts in Phnom Penh 08:00-16:00.

  • Nov. 23: Scheduled disruptions will take place in parts of Russey Keo, Chbar Ampov, Mean Chey, and Kamboul districts in Phnom Penh, as well as Ang Snoul District in Kandal Province 08:00-16:00.

  • Nov. 24: Outages to occur in parts of Sen Sok, Pou Senchey districts in Phnom Penh and Ang Snoul District in Kandal Province, 08:00-16:00.

Additional disruptions could occur in the affected areas outside the allocated hours due to potential operational challenges. Some surrounding regions could also experience similar outages. Transport disruptions are likely in areas with malfunctioning traffic signals. Disruptions to business and telecommunications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services, such as ATMs and gas stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages.

Charge all communication and portable electronic devices when possible. Unplug electronic equipment that is not connected to surge protectors. Exercise caution when driving in areas affected by power outages. Confirm business appointments. Verify that security systems are operational, including after power is restored. Ensure that generators are functional and fully fueled.
