Authorities plan to temporarily cut the supply of potable water in dozens of areas within the Santiago Metropolitan Region starting at 20:00 June 24. Officials have said that heavy rainfall in central Chile has hindered the production of drinking water supplying the capital region. Authorities did not immediately confirm when regular water supply would be restored.

The planned water cuts will reportedly impact an estimated 6 million people in the following 34 municipalities:

Officials have asked the affected population to responsibly collect water and reduce water use amid the cuts.

Conserve water if supply is available. Stockpile water and use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes. Water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before use. Boil water until officials clear the supply for normal consumption.
