Italy: Labor unions plan aviation sector strikes, June 4 /update 2

Nationwide air transport sector strike in Italy planned for June 4. Confirm flight reservations.

Warning

Event

Multiple labor unions representing workers in Italy's air transport sector plan to strike June 4, over pay and working conditions. The industrial action will affect airline ground handling staff, air cabin crews, air traffic controllers, and other services, in different regions and on different airlines. There is likely to be a significant cumulative effect nationwide. Flight services are however guaranteed by law 07:00-10:00 and 18:00-21:00. The strike action was postponed from May 19.

Unless completely averted, the walkout will probably cause significant flight disruptions on the newly scheduled date. The action will likely impact multiple air carriers, including Air Dolomiti (EN), Volotea (V7), American Airlines (AA), and Emirates (EK). Italian law requires workers to maintain a minimum level of service during labor strikes in critical transport and infrastructure sectors. Protests are possible by striking workers.

Advice

Monitor trusted local sources for updates on the status of the new strike date. Reconfirm all travel arrangements if booked to within or via Italy June 4-5. Arrive at the airport well ahead of schedule. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed.
