Mexico: Activists plan march in downtown Mexico City June 8

Activist groups to march in central Mexico City, Mexico, June 8. Heightened security, transport disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Several activist groups plan to march in downtown Mexico City on June 8. The purpose of the action is to demand an end to alleged attacks against members of the Zapatista movement in Chiapas State. Demonstrators will gather from 16:00 at the Angel de la Independencia before marching to the Zocalo. It remains unclear how many participants the event may draw.

The demonstration will likely cause some transport disruptions. Although the action should remain largely peaceful, authorities will probably deploy an increased security presence nearby as a precaution. Low-level clashes cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the march as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations if operating near the impacted area. Seek alternate routes to circumvent any related transport disruptions. Heed the instructions of security personnel.
