Mexico: Volaris Airlines workers announce nationwide strike June 2

Volaris Airlines to strike across Mexico June 2. Flight disruptions, cancelations likely; reconfirm bookings.

Warning

Event

Volaris Airlines (Y4) employees plan to strike throughout Mexico June 2. The purpose of the action is to denounce unfair pay and hazardous labor conditions. At least 35 flights from several cities, including Mexico City, Tijuana, Guadalajara, Monterrey, and Puerto Vallarta, have been canceled in anticipation of the work stoppage. In addition, airline officials estimate that the labor action could affect around 550 flights between Mexico and the rest of the Americas.

Disruptions could persist after the end of the action, as the airline deals with passenger backlogs and repositions aircraft and crew.

Advice

Confirm flights if booked to travel with Volaris Airlines on June 2. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Allow extra time for checking in at affected airports.
