Moldova: Farmers groups to protest in central Chisinau June 7-30

Farmers groups to lead protests in central Chisinau, Moldova, June 7-30. Increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

The Farmers' Force Association will demonstrate in central Chisinau from June 7-30. The group demands that the government increase aid to the agricultural sector, in response to imports of grain from Ukraine. Organizers predict around 1,000 people and 300 agricultural vehicles will gather in the Great National Assembly Square.

Authorities will almost certainly deploy an increased security presence to monitor the protest. The demonstrations and associated security measures, including road closures and movement restrictions, will likely prompt localized transport disruptions in the area. Isolated clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out, particularly if activists attempt to breach any security cordons.

Advice

As a standard precaution, avoid the vicinity of Great National Assembly Square while the demonstration is taking place. Avoid the vicinity of the Parliament building, where protests have developed with little warning in recent days. Allow additional time to reach nearby destinations in central Chisinau. Heed the instructions of local authorities.
