Unionized workers to stage commemorative partial general strike and demonstration in Montevideo, Uruguay, 08:45-13:00 June 27.

Unionized workers affiliated with the Intersyndical Plenary of Workers - National Convention of Workers (Plenario Intersindical de Trabajadores - Convencion Nacional de Trabajadores, PIT-CNT) are planning to stage a general strike and a demonstration in Montevideo June 27. The purpose of the action is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the general strike following the 1973 coup.
Organizers have announced that the work stoppage will be from 09:00-13:00; however, simultaneous caravans are scheduled to leave from various points around the city beginning at 08:45 to meet with other participants at the La Teja de Ancap refinery at 10:00, and march to Carlos María Ramírez and Carlos Tellier avenues.
Heightened security, transport, and business disruptions are likely throughout Montevideo during the work stoppage and related demonstration.
