Lingering flight delays and cancellations are likely through the evening of June 23 at airports in the greater New York City area after thunderstorms prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue ground stops and delay advisories for airports in the region. The measure affected John F. Kennedy Airport (JFK) with departure delays averaging 90 minutes; Newark Liberty International (EWR) with ground delays averaging 136 minutes; and LaGuardia International (LGA) with ground delays averaging 56 minutes. Air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice.

Additional ground stops and/or ground delays are possible for airports in New York, and New Jersey over the coming hours.
