Taxi drivers have launched protests in Cali and Bucaramanga early July 24. In both cities, activists are protesting the high price of fuel, and what they allege is the proliferation of illegal private transport units in their cities.
In Cali, taxi drivers have parked their vehicles in the area of the Centro Administrativo Distrital CAM, along Avenida 2 Norte. In Bucaramanga, demonstrators plan to build roadblocks in several locations of the city and its surrounding metropolitan area, including Papi Quiero Pina Bridge in Floridablanca, Palenque Bridge in Giron, and Puerta del Sol within Bucaramanga.
Significant transport disruptions are likely in both cities over the coming hours. Heightened security is likely near the protests; clashes between authorities and police cannot be ruled out.
