Denmark: Far-right protests, and likely counter-protests, planned in central Copenhagen, July 28-29.
Far-right protests and likely counter-protests planned in Copenhagen, Denmark, July 28-29; heavy security, localized disruptions likely.
Event
The Danish far-right "Danske Patrioter" group plans to stage a series of anti-Islamic protests in Copenhagen, July 28-29. The gatherings follow recent incidents in which far-right activists have burned and desecrated copies of the Quran in Denmark and Sweden. The planned protests include:
July 28
12:45: Islamic center, Dortheavej
17:00: Route 12, Tingbjerg
July 29
14:00: Queen Louise Bridge
17:00: Blagards Plads, Norrebro
Authorities will likely deploy heavy security to each location. While attendance at the protests will likely be low, increased security measures will prompt localized business and transport disruptions. Impromptu local counter-protests are possible, and clashes between rival groups of protesters, as well as between protesters and police, may occur. The protests may also spark demonstrations in front of Danish diplomatic missions worldwide.
Advice
Avoid all protests as a security measure. Allow extra time for travel in the affected areas. Follow local security and travel advice.
