Event
As of July 31, officials have eased a 24-hour curfew imposed in Adamawa State; the curfew now applies from 18:00-06:00 until further notice. Authorities enacted the measure on July 30, following the looting of government-owned grain warehouses and other shops in the state capital Yola. Other locations in the state may have been affected. Only essential workers with valid permits are permitted to move in public during the curfew. The curfew may be amended without notice in the coming hours and days.
Officials have warned of increased security patrols in Yola and across the state, including checkpoints. Robust security measures and the curfew will likely cause localized transport and commercial disruptions. Further bouts of unrest and looting cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Abide by the curfew and remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by security personnel. Plan for movement and business disruptions. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations.
