Peru: Protest planned in Lima July 6 to commemorate Teachers' Day

Unionized education workers, affiliated with the Unitary Union of Educational Workers of Peru (Sindicato Unitario de Trabajadores en la Educacion del Peru, SUTEP), plan to march and rally in Lima on July 6 as part of the commemoration of the country's Teachers' Day. Activists have gathered outside La Recoleta church in Plaza Francia and, from there, intend to march to El Angel Cemetery, starting at 11:30. Their intention is to honor educators who died due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Heightened security and transport disruptions in the area are possible.
