US: Severe weather prompts flight disruptions from Washington, DC, area to Boston, Mass., July 9

FAA issues ground stop and delays throughout the US northeast corridor on July 9; flight disruptions ongoing.

Warning

Event

Flight delays and cancellations are likely at airports in the Northeast Megalopolis region (Northeast Corridor) of the US, extending from Washington, DC, to the Boston, Massachusetts, area through at least late July 9 due to severe weather. Thunderstorms have prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue ground stops and ground delay programs for several airports in the region, including Boston Logan International Airport (BOS), Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and the New York metropolitan area's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). The air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice.

The FAA may issue additional weather-related ground delay programs and/or ground stops for airports in the region over the coming hours.

Advice

Contact your airline to confirm flight status if booked to travel via an airport in the Northeast Megalopolis region (Northeast Corridor) July 9. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Consider making alternative arrangements for time-sensitive travel if necessary.
