Canada: Authorities extend Light Rail Transit Line 1 suspensions in Ottawa, Ont., until at least Aug. 14 due to mechanical issues /update 2

Authorities extend Light Rail Transit Line 1 suspensions in Ottawa, Ont., Canada, until at least Aug. 14. Additional suspension possible.

Informational

Event

Officials have announced that the suspension of all Light Rail Transit (LRT) services on Line 1 (Confederation Line) in Ottawa, Ontario, will continue until at least Aug. 14 as authorities continue a thorough review and redesign of equipment. Maintenance crews originally discovered damage to train bearings July 17. Shuttles buses are running routes between Tunney's Pasture and Blair stations.

Further extensions of the metro suspensions are possible; authorities have delayed the date of service reopening several times. Resumption to train service will probably be gradual, with lingering disruptions. Increased demand for alternative means of transport is likely until LRT services resume.

Advice

Make alternative transit plans along the affected LRT route. Allow extra time to reach destinations due to increased traffic congestion and demand for alternative transportation. Monitor local news sources for developments.
