Activists, including members of opposition political parties, plan to hold demonstrations in multiple locations throughout Colombia Aug. 16 to protest President Gustavo Petro's administration, which is completing the first year of its four-year term.
Some of the confirmed protests are the following, all of them starting at 10:00:
Bogota: March from Parque Nacional to Plaza de Bolivar
Bucaramanga: March from Carrera 27 and Calle 28 to Plaza Civica Luis Carlos Galan
Cali: March from Parque de las Banderas to Plaza Jairo Varela
Ibague: March from 37 and 5ta to Attorney General's Office
Medellin: March from Oriental and La Playa to Alpujarra
Pereira: March from Parque Lago to Plaza de Bolivar.
Protests in other locations are likely. Thousands are likely to participate in some of these demonstrations, especially those in Bogota and Medellin. Heightened security and associated transport disruptions are also likely around protest areas. Clashes between protesters and counter-protesters are possible.
