Colombia: Protest between Bucaramanga and Palonegro early Aug. 18

Activists, including residents of the Monteverdi neighborhood, have launched a protest along the Antonia Santos Bridge, in Giron, outside of Bucaramanga, Santander Department, early Aug. 18, to demand improvements in the area's roads. Demonstrators are blocking the main road connecting Bucaramanga with Palonegro, and Palonegro International Airport (BGA).

Significant transport disruptions have been reported and are likely to continue for the coming hours, even after the protest ceases. Heightened security in the area is possible.
