Warning

Event

Authorities are conducting an operation to dispose of an unexploded World War II-era bomb in Dortmund's Rheinlanddamm neighborhood on Aug. 16. The device was uncovered near the intersection of the B1 and B54 highways. Authorities are enforcing a mandatory evacuation zone with a radius of 250 meters (273 yards) around the location of the bomb. It is unclear when the operation will end. Although the evacuation is ongoing, the B1 and B54 will not close until the evacuation is complete. The B1 will be closed between Ardeystrasse and Uphoff junction, while the B54 will be closed between Nordkirchenstrasse and Markgrafenstrasse. Trains on the U45 and U49 lines will pass through the Westfalenpark station without stopping.

Traffic and business disruptions within the affected area will likely continue for several hours after disposal technicians complete their work. Heightened security is likely near the site of the operation.

Advice

Avoid the evacuation area until authorities give the all-clear. Allow additional time if travelling in southern Dortmund. Strictly heed all orders given by authorities.
