Two groups of activists plan to protest on Walkerdamm in central Kiel from 18:00 Oct. 18. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce an Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD) party event that is scheduled to take place in the area that evening. Activists associated with the Round Table against Racism and Fascism Kiel will gather at the intersection of Walkerdamm and Hopfenstrasse, while a group of antifascist activists plan to gather at the corner of Walkerdamm and Backergang. The number of people who would participate in the demonstrations was not immediately clear.
Heightened security and localized transport disruptions are likely near the protest sites. Though unlikely, low-level confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers or ideologically opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.
