A security operation to dispose of a WWII-era bomb is planned along Landgrafenstrasse in Herne's Wanne-Sud District, North Rhine-West Phalia State, from 12:00 Aug. 22. Authorities have ordered the evacuation of around 1,200 residents from Landgrafenstrasse, Benzstrasse, and Baltzstrasse, as well as Bobenfeld, Kastanienallee, and Am Bockenbusch until the operation concludes. Officials have set up an evacuation support center for residents at the Im Sportpark 20. The duration of the operation is unclear.

Heightened security measures, as well as transport and business disruptions, are likely during the operation. Restrictions to rail traffic are also likely during the bomb disposal.

Landgrafenstrasse is approximately 8 km (5 miles) northeast of Essen.
