Informational

Event

The outlawed Communist Party of India Maoist (CPI-Maoist) has called for protests in Andhra Pradesh State through Sept. 4 as part of a "Samari Bheri" campaign to denounce rising living costs, unemployment, and electricity prices. Activists will conduct a signature campaign Aug. 30-31, submit petitions at all secretariats Sept. 1, and participate in sit-down demonstrations at all sub-division district headquarters Sept 4. The events could draw hundreds of participants.

Authorities will likely monitor the events and may attempt to disperse any gathering if it is especially disruptive. Officials may implement temporary road closures, security cordons, and/or other enhanced measures. Clashes between protesters and police are possible. Isolated security incidents cannot be ruled out. Activists may march along or block roadways, prompting localized transport disruptions.

Advice

Avoid protests and navigating roadblocks as a standard security precaution. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Allow additional travel time near gatherings. Heed all security and traffic advisories.
