India: Investigations underway in Delhi as of Oct. 20 following explosion near school

Security operations ongoing in Delhi, India, the morning of Oct. 20, following explosion near school. Localized disruptions possible.

Warning

Authorities are investigating an explosion near the CRPF Public School in Sector 14, Rohini, Delhi, as of Oct. 20. The blast was reported around 07:50 and did not cause any casualties. The incident damaged the school's compound wall, the glass surfaces of a nearby shop, and a parked vehicle. Officials have not confirmed the nature of the explosion.

Localized ground transport disruptions are likely in the affected area through Oct. 20 as investigations continue. Counterterror vigilance, such as security patrols and hotel and vehicle checks, are probable across the city as a precaution.

Exercise caution in public areas. Avoid potential militant target sites such as government, security, and diplomatic installations, as well as crowded gatherings. Heed all official instructions and traffic advisories.

The terror threat remains high across India. No major mass-casualty attack targeting civilians has occurred since 2013, with a consistent decline in casualties due to terror incidents. However, the country remains vulnerable to further attacks due to continued radicalization by Islamist militant outfits, as well as the presence of left-wing extremist and ethno separatist groups in some regions. A spate of bomb threats has also affected various buildings, including schools in India, and multiple flights originating from Indian destinations in recent months. Although authorities have determined past threats as hoaxes, significant security responses are typically activated.
