Warning

Event

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) pary has called for a protest march along National Highway (NH) 66 in the Konkan Division of Maharashtra State, Aug. 23-30. Organizers are denouncing delays in renovation of the roadway that connects Mumbai and Goa cities. The march will occur from Palaspe to Mangaon, then pass Bharana Naka, Rajapur, and Banda. Further demonstrations, including road blockades, localized shutdown strikes, and protests, are likely in the coming weeks. Up to a few hundred people are likely to join related demonstrations. Essential, emergency, medical, and religious services are typically exempt during strikes. Local business closures are possible in rural areas. Impacts on the operation of multinational corporations or significant violence are unlikely. Protest plans may change at short notice.

Activists may attack vehicles attempting to cross blocked routes, as well as local businesses and transport services defying any strike calls. Demonstrations are possible near toll plazas along NH 66, at public squares, and outside government buildings in Konkan Division during the coming days. The highest participation is likely in the district headquarters of Mumbai, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, and Thane.

Authorities will likely heighten security deployment and may impose security cordons and traffic diversions near rally sites. Clashes between security forces and protesters may occur, especially if officials attempt to disperse gatherings or remove roadblocks. Enhanced measures such as temporary gathering bans and mass or precautionary arrests are possible in case of significant disruptions or violence.

Advice

Avoid protests due to possible clashes. Do not navigate roadblocks as protestors may react violently. Monitor local media for updates on rallies and road conditions, as organizers may not announce demonstrations in advance. If any violence breaks out nearby, leave the area and seek shelter at a safe, nongovernment building. Confirm all transport reservations and deliveries in the affected route through late August. Heed all traffic and security advisories.
