Unemployed graduates are protesting outside the Basra Oil Company Aug. 14. Protesters are blocking the entrance to the facility. The purpose of the action is to demand more employment opportunities.

Authorities will almost certainly maintain a heightened security posture in the protest area until the situation stabilizes. Localized transport disruptions are likely through at least late Aug. 14. Violence cannot be discounted should security personnel move forcefully to disperse the protesters. Further related protests are possible in the coming days.
