Informational

Event

Activists affiliated with various civil society organizations plan to stage a series of rallies and marches in several cities across Mexico on Aug. 30 to mark International Day of Victims of Forced Disappearance. While events of varying sizes will likely take place in cities throughout the country, organizers have announced details for the following specific gatherings:

  • Ciudad Juarez: Rally at the Office of the State Attorney General at 09:00

  • Monterrey: Rally behind the Government Palace at 07:30

  • Torreon: March from Plaza Mayor to Alameda Zaragoza starting at 18:00

  • Veracruz: March from the Tranvia del Recuerdo to the Faro Venustiano Caranza starting at 08:45

Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near rally sites. While most such gatherings will probably remain largely peaceful, isolated confrontations with security personnel cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid all gatherings as a precaution. Allow additional time to reach destinations near protest locations. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent any related disruptions. Leave the area at the first sign of any security disturbance.
