Lingering transport disruptions likely following violent protests on Federal Highway 95D between Mexico City and Cuernavaca, Mexico, Aug. 2.

Warning

Event

Lingering transport disruptions are likely on Federal Highway 95D between Mexico City and Cuernavaca after violent protests broke out on the route in the municipality of Huitzilac, Morelos State, and in the vicinity of San Miguel Topilejo, Mexico City, on Aug. 2. The purpose of the protests was to denounce authorities' recent seizure of allegedly illegal woodworking facilities. Participants reportedly blocked the highway and burned vehicles and tires.

Authorities will probably maintain heightened security around the protest sites over the coming hours. Clashes between security forces and demonstrators cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Prepare for lingering transport disruptions; allow additional time to reach destinations in the affected areas and seek alternative routes to circumvent sites impacted by protest activity. Comply with directives given by authorities.
