Mexico: Protesters block Federal Highway 190 near Oaxaca Aug. 24

Protesters affiliated with the Independent Union of Education Workers of Mexico (Sindicato Independiente de Trabajadores de la Educacion de Mexico, SITEM) are blocking Federal Highway 190 near the city of Oaxaca Aug. 24. Demonstrators are blocking the highway near the municipality of Guendulain. The action is against alleged harassment of students by teachers of the State Institute of Public Education of Oaxaca.

Related demonstrations are also possible in other locations in and around Oaxaca in the coming hours. Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely. Disruptions to businesses dependent on truck shipments are possible. Clashes are possible if security forces try to forcibly disperse protesters.
