Officials further ease curfew imposed due to looting in Adamawa State, Nigeria, as of Aug. 3.
Event
As of Aug. 3, officials have further eased a curfew imposed in Adamawa State July 30 following the looting of government-owned grain warehouses and other shops in the state capital Yola. While authorities initially enacted a 24-hour curfew statewide, the measure now applies 22:00-06:00 until further notice in Yola North, Yola South, Girei, and Numan Local Government Areas (LGAs). Only essential workers with valid permits are permitted to move in public during the curfew. Authorities may amend the curfew without notice in the coming hours and days.
Officials will likely maintain a heightened security presence in the aforementioned areas to enforce the measure. Robust security measures and the curfew will likely cause localized transport and commercial disruptions. Further bouts of unrest and looting cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Abide by the curfew and remain courteous and cooperative if approached and questioned by security personnel. Plan for movement and business disruptions. Maintain contact with diplomatic representations.
