Pakistan: Officials to close CNG stations in Sindh Province 08:00 Aug. 26-08:00 Aug. 28

CNG stations to close for 48 hours in Sindh Province, Pakistan, from 08:00 Aug. 26. Shortages likely. Confirm transport reservations.

Warning

Event

Sui Southern Gas Corporation (SSGC) officials will close all compressed natural gas (CNG) and regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) stations in Sindh Province 08:00 Aug. 26-08:00 Aug. 28. The move is to meet domestic users' demand amid ongoing shortages. The closures are likely to affect cargo and public transportation services and some taxi operations, especially in Karachi and other cities. SSGC will also not supply CNG to its industrial and power plant clients Aug. 26-28. Power and commercial disruptions are possible, especially if supply normalization faces delays.

Previous CNG disruptions have sparked protests from civilian, political, and trade bodies. Demonstrations could take place at SSGC offices, transport hubs, and public squares. Increased security is likely if larger protests occur. Security measures and rallies may also trigger localized transport disruptions.

Advice

Confirm deliveries and ground transport reservations Aug. 26-28. Source for alternative fuel supplies if operations are heavily dependent on CNG and/or RLNG. Charge all devices as a precaution and ensure generators are working. Avoid all possible demonstrations due to the potential for transport disruptions.
