Disruptions likely to continue in Crevedia, Romania, Aug. 27, following explosions, fire that left one dead at at least 46 injured.

Emergency crews continue to respond to a fire and two explosions that occurred at a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) station located along National Road 1A in Crevedia, Dambovita County, as of early Aug. 27. Authorities have confirmed at least one person died and 46 others injured in the incident. Firefighters have contained the fire and said there is no longer a risk of it expanding. Disruptions along the National Road 1A are likely until the emergency response ends. At least 3,000 people within a 1.4-kilometer radius (0.86 miles) were evacuated.

The incident started with an initial explosion and a subsequent fire at around 18:50 Aug. 26. Multiple firefighters arrived at the scene before a second, larger explosion occurred at around 20:50. Reports indicate at least 26 of the injured are firefighters. The initial fire also affected two nearby residences. The fire has emitted a large quantity of smoke, which may noticeably worsen air quality in the area over the coming hours.

Heightened security and disruptions to transport and business are likely in the affected area until authorities extinguish the blaze and vacate the scene.
