Authorities have confirmed that no additional suspects are at large after they arrested the perpetrator of a vehicle-ramming and stabbing incident near Seohyeon Station in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, late Aug. 3. Earlier, unconfirmed reports that have since been debunked suggested that more than one assailant may have been involved in the incident. The sole, now-detained suspect reportedly drove a vehicle onto a sidewalk in the area, hitting and injuring several people, before stepping out of the car and proceeding to stab others in a nearby department store. In total, the attack left at least 13 people wounded. The perpetrator's motive for the assault was not immediately clear.
Authorities will almost certainly maintain an increased security presence in the affected area over the coming hours until they conclude their investigation and depart the incident site. Consequent localized transport disruptions are possible.
