Wildfire causes disruption in and around Portbou and Colera, Spain, Aug. 5; evacuations ordered, train and road traffic suspended.

Spanish authorities have implemented an evacuation order in and around the areas of Colera and Portbou following the spread of a wildfire Aug. 5. Further evacuations in the vicinity of Llanca are possible. All train traffic between Portbou and Figueres has been halted, and the N-260 national road is closed. Electricity and phone lines have been damaged in the vicinity of Portbou, resulting in outages. Phone and water outages have also been reported.

Emergency teams, including firefighters from France, are responding to the blaze; however, there have as yet been no official reports of casualties. The further spread of the fire is possible due to high winds.

Advice

Strictly heed all evacuation orders and other instructions from local authorities. If near the affected zone, prepare a go-bag containing the essentials for quick relocation in the event evacuation mandates are expanded.
