Activists plan to demonstrate against over-tourism in Valencia, Oct. 19, and Tenerife, Spain, Oct. 20; localized disruptions likely.

Activists plan to demonstrate against over-tourism in Valencia, Oct. 19, and Tenerife, Oct. 20. Campaigners will demand increased control of mass tourism, local rents, and hotel planning regulation. The following events are confirmed:

  • Valencia: Torres de Serrans, from 18:30 Oct. 19, and then march to Plaza del Ayuntamiento

  • Tenerife: Metropolis Commercial Centre, Playa Las Americas, from 12:00 Oct. 20.

It is likely that several hundred to low thousands will take part, based on previous similar events.

Heightened security, road closures, and localized transport disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the protests. The demonstrations will likely pass off peacefully.

Avoid the protests as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling in affected areas. Immediately depart the area at the first sign of any security disturbance. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
