Event

The Zero Pedestrian Death Promotion Alliance has called for a protest march in Zhongzheng District, Taipei, 16:00-18:00 Aug. 20. Protestors will gather from 14:00 at Ketagalan Boulevard. The action is to demand the systematic upgrading of pedestrian infrastructure, improvements in driver education, and an overhaul of Taiwan's traffic laws. It is unclear how many attendants the march will draw. Localized transport disruptions in Zhongzheng District is almost certain during the rally. Authorities have announced traffic diversions on Ketagalan Boulevard, Huaining Street, Gongyuan Road, and Guiyang Street, 08:00 - 22:00 Aug. 20.

Police will likely monitor the events and may attempt to disperse the crowd if it is especially disruptive. While the protest will likely remain peaceful, minor skirmishes cannot be ruled out. Affected bus services will likely be diverted. Increased congestion on alternate routes, and increased demand for alternative transport is likely through the afternoon of Aug. 20.

Advice

Exercise caution around the protest. Confirm road status and public transport schedules. Plan for localized transport disruptions and allow additional travel time to reach nearby destinations; seek alternative routes to circumvent the march route if necessary. Heed all official security and traffic advisories, including crowd management measures.
