Lingering flight delays and cancellations are likely at airports in Central and South Florida after thunderstorms prompted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to issue ground stops and delays at several airports in the region. As of the afternoon of August 17, the FAA has issued a ground stop at Miami International Airport (MIA) until at least 18:00. Additionally, Orlando International Airport (MCO), Tampa International Airport (TPA), and Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International (FLL) are averaging departure delays from 30 to 105 minutes. Air traffic control measures could be extended or rescinded on short notice.
The FAA may issue additional ground stops and/or ground delays in Central and South Florida over the coming hours.
