Venezuela: Activists to march in downtown Caracas Aug. 9

Unionized education and health workers, as well as retirees, have gathered in Parque Carabobo in Caracas early Aug. 9 to stage a protest march in demand of improved salaries and benefits. Demonstrators intend to march to the offices of the Health and Education ministries. Hundreds are likely to participate in the march. The duration of the event remains unclear.

Heightened security is likely to prompt transport disruptions in the affected area early Aug. 9.
